200 Day Time Capsule Blog Archive

In July of 2017, I posted this blog, explaining an idea I had to start a time capsule blog.

You see, I’m obsessed with time and how it can (seemingly) move both slow and fast and I wanted to find a tangible way to track it.

Thus, with the help of FutureMe.org, the 200 Day Time Capsule Blog series was born!

And since I love a good scrapbook, I’ve decided to keep track of all my answers here, so I can look back at where time has taken me.

.

1) What day is it?

My answer from time capsule #2 (2/9/18): Friday February 9th, 2018

My answer from time capsule #3 (8/29/18): Wednesday August 29, 2018

My answer from time capsule #4 (3/25/19): Monday March 25, 2019

2) What’s the weather like outside?

My answer from time capsule #1 (7/9/17): HOT. AS. HELL. Well, at least it was earlier. It’s actually not bad now. There’s a nice breeze happening and I’m here for it.

My answer from time capsule #2 (2/9/18): It’s about 50 degrees outside right now, but it’s going to get up to 80 degrees later because apparently we’re not having a winter this year.

My answer from time capsule #3 (8/29/18): It’s been really nice the last couple of days. The summer is slightly giving way, so the temps stay around the high 80’s during the day and then dip into the high 60’s at night which is exciting! I honestly can’t wait until fall. I’ve been looking at my sweaters longingly and I can’t wait cozy up.

My answer from time capsule #4 (3/25/19): It was 50 degrees when I left the house, but it’s forecasted to be 80 later today! Summer here we come.

My answer from time capsule #5 (1/14/20): It’s sunny, but a little on the chilly side (for Southern Californians at least). I’ve been living in my sweaters for the last month and it has been bliss.

My answer from time capsule #6 (4/28/20): At this very moment it is 73 degrees, but it is expected to get up to 91 today. So apparently we are diving headfirst into the heat. RIP to the reasonable DWP bills.

My answer from time capsule #7 (11/17/20): It’s going to be about 80 degrees today. We had a little spurt of cold weather but now we’re back to the (mild) heat. The mornings are nice and cool though, and I’ve even gotten to sleep in sweatshirts a couple of times. I’m ready to get cozy!

I would now like to officially change this question to “describe yourself today.” I was going to make it, “what are you wearing today?” but I feel I wear the same four things over and over so that just sounds like a discouraging look at my fashion choices. So we’re going to try out, “describe yourself” because I feel like it leaves it open to whatever might come to mind.

.

3) What did you do today?

My answer from time capsule #1 (7/9/17): Taught the elementary class at church, went to Quiznos with my mom, then spent the entirety of the afternoon battling the swarm of ants that have taken over our house. #ant-pocalypse2017

My answer from time capsule #2 (2/9/18): Since it’s only 7:00 am, I haven’t done much yet. However, after work I’m going over to a friend’s house for a game night and hopefully watching opening ceremonies! I’ve got my Team USA hat on already!

My answer from time capsule #3 (8/29/18): So far today all I’ve done is work. We are currently going through an audit and even though I’m not a big part of it, it still makes me nervous. I hope everything is going good! Later today, I have plans on going to the gym and running on the treadmill. And while it’s not set in stone yet, I’ve been considering picking back up on the running and trying to complete a marathon next year. It’s a daunting thought, but I really think I want to go for it. I guess we’ll see what happens.

My answer from time capsule #4 (3/25/19): It is currently 8:29 a.m. and I am sitting at my desk. All I’ve done today is moan and groan and limp around because my legs and hurting after yesterday’s MARATHON. I repeat, I ran a marathon yesterday. What is life? I can’t believe it.

My answer from time capsule #5 (1/14/20): Today all I have done is work so far. But in a few hours I am headed to the dentist to get my wisdom teeth out. Bleh. I’m excited to receive this in the future when it’s all over and done with.

My answer from time capsule #6 (4/28/20): Well, it’s only 10:00 a.m. so I haven’t done much, and to be honest, with quarantine still going strong I probably won’t do a ton later. But I have been trying my best to keep busy with creative projects. Right now I’m working on a rally towel blanket and a cross stitch for [my cousins] Spenser, Ashlynn and (upcoming) baby Easton. I can’t believe that when I get this letter back he will be here, in the world! Can’t wait to meet you, little guy.

My answer from time capsule #7 (11/17/20): Today is just a work day, but yesterday was a real highlight, as Nicole and I played pickleball for the first time and it was so fun! We were in search of a new hobby to try out and I think this one is going to be great. Plus, we already have plans to join the senior pickleball league and dominate well into our 70’s.

.

4) What’s your favorite song right now?

My answer from time capsule #1 (7/9/17): “Thunder” by Imagine Dragons

My answer from time capsule #2 (2/9/18): “Sober” by James Arthur

My answer from time capsule #3 (8/29/18): Honestly I have a couple favorites right now, so I would say it’s between: “You Should See Me in a Crown” by Billie Eilish, “Live a Little” by Fool and “Breathin'” by Ariana Grande.

My answer from time capsule #4 (3/25/19): Probably Sucker Punch by Sigrid and The Bones by Maren Morris.

My answer from time capsule #5 (1/14/20): Pretty much anything by Maggie Rogers.

My answer from time capsule #6 (4/28/20): Holding Out for the One by Tennille Townes and Hard to Forget by Sam Hunt, but I’ve also been listening to a lot of Lilla Vargen & Lady A.

My answer from time capsule #7 (11/17/20): Natalee and I have been really jamming out to Bitter by FLETCHER, but I’ve also had Cam’s new album The Otherside and Léon’s album Apart on repeat for the last couple weeks.

.

5) What’s the most recent movie you’ve seen?

My answer from time capsule #1 (7/9/17): I think The Broadway Melody, though if we really want to get into the meat of my television/movie watching ways, LET’S TALK ABOUT GAME OF THRONES. How did Season 7 end? How are we doing with the way it ended? Oh my gosh I’m overwhelmed by all the questions I have.

My answer from time capsule #2 (2/9/18): Maze Runner: The Death Cure

My answer from time capsule #3 (8/29/18): Just yesterday I drove over to the Burbank Town Center after work to see Skate Kitchen, which I loved. It’s an indie movie that one review described as “Lady Bird with skateboards” which is honestly pretty accurate and probably part of the reason why I loved it so much. It was one of those movies that made me think, which made me want to write stories that make people think.

My answer from time capsule #4 (3/25/19): Natalee and I watched Pitch Perfect 3 for the first time last night.

My answer from time capsule #5 (1/14/20): I saw Little Women on New Years Eve and it instantly became one of my favorite movies ever. Loved it.

My answer from time capsule #6 (4/28/20): My family and I watched Knives Out about a week ago and it was SO GOOD, and then Natalee and I have been on a Disney kick. I think the most recent one we watched was The Princess & the Frog which I’d never seen but thought it was so cute! Also, how dare Disney make me get so attached to a bug.

My answer from time capsule #7 (11/17/20): I just watched Jojo Rabbit the other night and it was so great. I’m mad it took me so long to watch it! I’m hoping that this year I’ll see all of the movies nominated for an Oscar and, even better, correctly predict which one will win!

.

6) Who did you text last and what did you say?

My answer from time capsule #1 (7/9/17): A text to Natalee & Rachel in our Roomie text string, in regards to #ant-pocalypse: “they were slowing down pretty good earlier, we found some minor survivors, but applied the appropriate force. I’d hold off on calling for now. Let’s see how the next couple days go.” Follow up question: how DID the next couple days go? Did we win the war of the ants? Did we have to call the Terminix guys and let them take our money?

My answer from time capsule #2 (2/9/18): To my roommate Rachel:

Shout out to my fellow This is Us fans who know what’s up.

My answer from time capsule #3 (8/29/18): I texted my sister asking which celebrities I should use for the “Where’s the Groom?” game I’m putting together for my soon to be (official) cousin Amanda’s bridal shower in September. I’m already excited to read this letter in the future because it means that the wedding finally came and I can’t wait to know how fun it was.

My answer from time capsule #4 (3/25/19): I texted my sister, “lol I can only hope that’s what they think,” which was in response to her sympathizing with me feeling self conscious limping to my car this morning and having all of our neighbors look at me very concernedly. She said they are probably just thinking I “worked way harder than them this weekend”, but they were more looking at me like they were wondering if they should call the police or take me to the hospital. Not to worry neighbors, just ran a casual marathon yesterday and now my body is broken.

My answer from time capsule #5 (1/14/20): I texted my sister “I’ve gotten three emails from that gym I noticed while we were driving yesterday,” to let her know that technology is officially taking over.

My answer from time capsule #6 (4/28/20): I texted my brother about a German movie on Netflix called “Isi & Ossi” that he should watch, especially because he just recommended the show “Dark” to me, which is also in German and, according to him, will “BLOW MY MIND.” I am currently 15 minutes in to Season 1, Episode 1, and am already invested, so we’ll see how well I’m able to control my binge instincts.

My answer from time capsule #7 (11/17/20): I texted Nicole to set up our next day for pickleball, which we have taken to calling “pickle it up”, “get our pickle on”, etc.

.

7) What is your biggest goal right now?

My answer from time capsule #1 (7/9/17): Publish a book

My answer from time capsule #2 (2/9/18): Take steps forward in my career, wherever those steps may be. I mean YES, I want to publish a book, but I’m trying to focus my thoughts on just finding my place in the writing world. Hopefully I’m still working hard to do that!

My answer from time capsule #3 (8/29/18): To keep moving forward. I have this feeling in my gut that I’m right around the corner from something. I don’t know what it is or if it’s going to involve my personal or professional life or both, but I feel like I’m right on the cusp of something, so my goal is to keep working towards it.

My answer from time capsule #4 (3/25/19): To find something new to challenge myself with. I always forget how much proving your own self doubt wrong can make you feel invincible and so I want to find my next big challenge and then conquer it.

My answer from time capsule #5 (1/14/20): To finish writing a book.

My answer from time capsule #6 (4/28/20): Hmm. That’s a little difficult because the world is kind of on hold right now. But I suppose I’m just trying to keep busy, stay motivated, and write.

My answer from time capsule #7 (11/17/20): I am about halfway through my first ever writing class at UCLA Extension and it is the first unit of a Creative Writing Certificate. So my current goal is to work through those classes, get that certificate and see where writing can take me. Also, you know, just survive the rest of 2020.

.

8) What are you most excited about?

My answer from time capsule #1 (7/9/17): At this exact moment, this time capsule blog, but in general I’m excited about the possibility of getting a book out there in the world, I’m excited (and nervous) about my brother leaving for college, and I’m excited about all of the possibilities the future holds if I work hard enough!

My answer from time capsule #2 (2/9/18): THE OLYMPICS. Like I said, I already have my Team USA hat on. I will now spend the next few weeks almost completely cutoff from society. #sorrynotsorry. Note: how did we do?!

My answer from time capsule #3 (8/29/18): Cory and Amanda’s wedding. Hands down.

My answer from time capsule #4 (3/25/19): There are a lot of exciting things on the calendar for this year, but I think right now I’m most excited about Opening Day. It’s this Thursday and it’s the very first time Natalee and I have ever gone. I’m so excited!

My answer from time capsule #5 (1/14/20): I’m excited about the potential of this year. If that makes sense. I have a lot of fun things planned on the calendar and I think a lot of good things are on the horizon and so I am feeling excited and optimistic about the potential this year (and hopefully this decade) has for me and those around me.

My answer from time capsule #6 (4/28/20): Meeting baby Easton. ❤

My answer from time capsule #7 (11/17/20): Seeing my family at Thanksgiving, watching all of my friend’s babies grow up, the possibility of falling in love and having babies of my own. I’m feeling positive today and I’m just excited about the good things ahead, because I know they’re coming.

.

9) What are you most worried about?

My answer from time capsule #1 (7/9/17): Not accomplishing anything I want to. Being sad, alone, and covered in left over ice cream. The ants coming back. The Dodgers never winning a World Series in my lifetime.

My answer from time capsule #2 (2/9/18): It’s hard to really pin it down into words, but I think I’d say I’m most worried that I’m not accomplishing enough or that I’m not going in the direction I should be. Or something along those lines. For the most part I think I could sum up most of my worries to being in my 20’s though. It may be fun and all, but it’s borderline terrifying.

My answer from time capsule #3 (8/29/18): In one part of my brain I’m worried that I’m not doing anything with my life and that I’m just wandering around with no idea where I’m supposed to be. And then the rest of my brain is worried about mostly everything else. So to be honest, my answer would be: most things. *nervous smile and shrug*

My answer from time capsule #4 (3/25/19): This answer seems to stay the same for me, but I keep finding different ways to describe it. I’m most worried about not doing enough to make my life successful, primarily in the eyes of others. I’m working really hard to shift that fear so that I am the one whose opinion matters most, but I have been feeling the weight of other peoples’ expectations recently.

My answer from time capsule #5 (1/14/20): To find myself at the end of this year (and ESPECIALLY) this decade in the exact same place.

My answer from time capsule #6 (4/28/20): Oh boy, there is a lot of worry on my plate right now. Most of which I don’t like talking about because I don’t want to make it anymore real than it already is. To be honest I’m very scared of what lies ahead, but I’m trying to stay positive and pray in the hopes that there is good.

My answer from time capsule #7 (11/17/20): COVID numbers peaking, overall unrest, change, all the things I can’t really control. You know, casual stuff.

.

10) Tell yourself a really bad joke.

My answer from time capsule #1 (7/9/17): You know you still like the “outstanding invoice” joke from your book. Just admit it.

My answer from time capsule #2 (2/9/18): This is not so much a joke as it is a pickup line I heard during an interview the other day that made me laugh. “My parents always told me to follow my dreams…so do you mind if I follow you home?”

My answer from time capsule #3 (8/29/18): I can’t think of a joke at the moment, but hey, future Kim, if you’re having a down day, go rewatch Demetri Martin’s new (though I guess it won’t be new in the future) standup special. It will make you smile, I promise.

My answer from time capsule #4 (3/25/19): I don’t even like this question anymore.

My answer from time capsule #5 (1/14/20): Absolutely not.

My answer from time capsule #6 (4/28/20): Read the room, girl.

I’d like to officially change this question since I sincerely hate it every time it comes up. I’m thinking, “what is the best thing you’ve eaten in the last 200 days?” Because who doesn’t like reliving something delicious?

My answer from time capsule #7 (11/17/20): Easily, the granola crunch Belgian waffle I had not once but twice for breakfast while my family was in Solvang for the weekend celebrating my dad’s 60th birthday.
