Thursday Faith

Hello there!

I wanted to tell you about an exciting new project I’m working on called Thursday Faith.

It is a weekly newsletter that will be centered around faith-based content.

Growing up, my family almost always went to church on Sundays. That’s what Sundays were all about! Well that and rollups, which is what we call cinnamon rolls.

But there have been many times throughout my life, as my faith ebbed and flowed, that Sunday felt like this nagging thing at the end of the week. It was half of my weekend already booked, and a morning I didn’t get to sleep in or play video games in my pajamas.

When I turned eighteen, my mom made church optional—she wanted me to choose to go or not go. But I didn’t really confront that choice until recently. I still saw it as an unspoken expectation—not only by my mom but by my peers, by people at my church, by everyone, really. I was never able to see it as a thing I could choose or not choose, going just felt like the “right thing” to do, and as a diehard rule follower I always wanted to do the right thing.

It wasn’t until the last several years, when my Sundays started being booked out far in advance, making my visits to church (optional or not) few and far between, that I realized I wanted to go, that I was disappointed to miss service. And not only that, but I realized I tended to throw up my hands in surrender whenever I missed a Sunday, as if that was my only chance of spending time with God.

I’d forgotten that faith is an everyday choice, an everyday opportunity.

Thursday Faith, to me, is faith that you are choosing over and over because you want to, not because you feel like you have to or because it’s the day everyone else is doing it.

Thursday Faith is everyday faith, and I’m hopeful to provide a little dose of it each week on—you guessed it!—Thursdays.

If you’re interested, you can subscribe to Thursday Faith here, and posts will be sent straight to your email each week starting tomorrow!

Otherwise, I’ll see you right here every Monday.
