In July of 2017, I sent a letter to the future.
It started a chain of letters that I now fondly call the 200 Day Time Capule Blogs.
They include a series of 10 questions to ask and answer for my future self, and give me glimpses into my life in 200 day segments.
I have done 11 so far, and honestly it is a wonder that this is the first time I FORGOT to send myself one.
My last time capsule blog was posted in September of 2023, and like any other, I wished myself well on my next 200 days. See you April 1st!! I said, while wishing my cousin Taryn a happy future birthday.
And while, yes, happy birthday Taryn!! I hope you have the most wonderful day; I unfortunately did not get a letter today because I did not, in fact, send one.
Oops!
Hopefully, any of you out there who participate in this project with me got your letters and can now write your next one, but as for me, I’m starting again today. And in case you’ve only just heard about this project, now’s your chance to join in!
It’s the first of the month, a gorgeous, clean fresh start. Why not give future you a little treat?
Here are the questions/prompts I answer in my letter, though you can mix, match, and/or change anything you like:
1) What day is it?
2) Describe yourself today
3) What did you do today?
4) What’s your favorite song right now?
5) What’s the most recent movie you’ve seen?
6) Who did you last text and what did you say?
7) What is your biggest goal right now?
8) What are you most excited about?
9) What are you most worried about?
10) What’s the best thing you’ve eaten in the last 200 days?
Each letter is a fun reminder of who you were and what you were thinking about on a random day in time—one that might get lost in the shuffle. Give yourself some encouragement, set some goals, show some love. Watch how fast time can fly, how far you can go and how much you can learn in just 200 days.
Once you answer the questions you can head to FutureMe.org and post it in an email, and then set it to arrive in your inbox on any date you like!
I’ll be setting my receive date to Friday October 18th, 2024, which is 200 days away. But no matter which date you choose, it’s fun to put yourself back in the shoes of your past self—even if it is the recent past.
I always like re-discovering random snippets of my hopes, worries, goals, and musical preferences, as they can change a lot in 200 days. And I always like knowing that I was rooting for myself then, I’m rooting for myself now, and on and on we go on this adventure.
Wishing you well on your next 200 days, I hope they bring you some magic!
